Write Up:
EOC members gained a significant amount of knowledge at the MEC info session about snowshoes and cross-country skis.

We learned the differences between and benefits of fish-scale (aka waxless) skis and traditional (waxable) skis, we were given some tips about how to take care of our skis to maximize their lifespan, we even got some advice about wax options for our traditional skis.

We then learned about our various options for snowshoes and the benefits of varying designs. We also learned why we don't "float" on snow when snowshoeing like we remember doing when we were kids. It all depends on the snowpack and the freshness of the snow.

We concluded the info session with a discussion about the benefits of using poles while snowshoeing and we learned a new trick for using our poles to get up once we've fallen in deep snow while on snowshoes.

All in all a very informative night and I think we're all looking forward to putting our knowledge to use once there's more snow in which to enjoy these sports.
