Write Up:

Thanks to everyone who came out to a great day of emu wrestling with The EOC and The SPEWF (South Pambula Emu Wrestling Federation). Things couldn't have gone better as a festive and brightly dressed crowd gathered at the Pambula Flocking Grounds. Bright sun, cool breeze and the smells of emu and candy floss in the air are just the things to get your heart thumping.

Unfortunately all of our club members were eliminated in the early rounds. There were some good, close matches but precious little success by any of our team. In spite of his advanced age, Ian’s guest, Deputy Dawg placed surprisingly well. And let’s all give a hand to Narmin whose submission loss was not as bad as it looks on paper.

It seems that Australian emus are tougher than those from our part of the world.

Between Donna and Mae, there were no problems with having enough room for carpoolers – using the roof, Donna was able to take 12, and Mae took the rest, including her Poo-mu (emu poodle cross). Good thing, because Ryan seemed a little uncertain as to how many carpool-ees he could take. Everyone was impressed with Randy’s (from COC) private jet until Mark showed up in his hover craft. Apparently there was a gas station on Solomon Islands. He brought his pit emus along, but unfortunately left his guest, the club mascot, to his own devices using the jet stream to get there, and the poor mascot never did arrive. He no-showed on Sandie’s event, too. Our next event might be a search and rescue party for the mascot. It’s probably a good thing, though, because Sandie hadn’t arranged her ticket ahead of time and ran up to the wicket at the last minute and got the very last ticket. If the mascot had been there, they may have come to blows over that ticket.

We'd also like to thank The SPEWF for being such great hosts. The half-time show was terrific. The audience was completely wowed by the echidna juggler in particular.

We hope we can get another group going to the 49th annual World Championship next year. Everybody practice your head-locks.

Brent and Rhonda
