Everyone met at the Marten River campground at around noon on Saturday. We set up camp on two adjoining sites and got organized.

In the afternoon, we hiked about 10 km kilometers along the lakeside 'Freighter Trail' then made it back to the campsite in time for supper. Sitting around the campfire was nice, and we all went down to the lake shore to watch the sun go down. It wasn't very cold overnight in spite of forecasts predicting below-zero temperatures, and we stayed warm in our tents.

Up early the next morning, and some of us took a little stroll along the beach. After breakfast we packed up, and our next goal was a drive to the top of Marten Mountain, 450 meters above the lake. Great views. One group continued on foot down the Lily Lake Trail, while two people returned to Edmonton.

All in all, a nice break from the routine, and something different in an area few of us had visited before.
