Fifteen people came out on a pleasant spring day - slightly overcast and temperatures right around freezing. We met at the Belvedere Station and decided to try the Hayburger Trail at Elk Island Park. After a few delays enroute (stupid trains!) we met at the trailhead and left at around 11:00.

It's a 10 km loop, basically just a meander through the bush with nothing exciting to look at except for a few distant plains bison. No hills to speak of, but the trail conditions, with mixed refrozen ice and snow, and a few bare spots with mud, made for interesting footing. Those who had them wore cleats and the rest slipped and slid a bit but still made it through with few problems.

The speed was slower than usual, though. On dry summer trails, the hike would have taken just over two hours. We didn't get back to the cars until around 2:00!

Still, a nice day and decent exercise. Thanks to everyone for coming out.
