In the summer, the University of Alberta Botanic Garden is a field collection of some of the most beautiful plants you'll ever see. It even has an elaborate Japanese Garden, among other specialized displays.

In the winter for just over a month, the UofA Botanic Garden puts on a winter event called Luminaria - see below for more information from their website.

In the darkest nights of winter, let the beauty of a snowy wonderland warm your heart.

Winter dreams of warmth and togetherness. Wander candle-lit pathways in the serene Kurimoto Japanese Garden. Sip hot apple cider, while the sounds of a capella singers fill the air.

Winter is a time to dream and reflect. Take a peaceful moment to sit by a fire and gaze at the stars. Send a message to the world on a Wish Tree. Light a candle for a loved one in Memory Lane.

Winter dreams of celebration. Immerse yourself in a joyful animated light display set to music in the dramatic Aga Khan Garden. Celebrate Indigenous experience, including a new sculpture by noted artist Jason Carter. Say hello to the illuminated Snow Sprites and bow to a beautiful Snow Queen. Eat, drink and be merry! Indulge in a beverage at the Ice Bar, or some food and drink at the Patio Cafe.

Celebrating 50 years of friendship. 2021 marks a significant milestone year for the Friends of the University of Alberta Botanic and as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations, the Friends are co- hosting Luminaria.

TO ATTEND, YOU MUST PRE- PURCHASE YOUR TICKET! Please click HERE .

To find me at the gardens, I will be waiting at the garden entrance at 7:00pm wearing / carrying my royal blue EOC baseball cap. At 7:10pm we will head on in to explore the gardens until 9:00pm at the latest. If you are running late, please bring my phone # with so you can contact me and we'll try to find each other.
