Itinerary:

The Early Bird Hike. We will all meet for 7:30am at the Wasgegagan Lake Staging area parking lot and will hike approx. 18-20 km to the Islet lake shelter. Out and back. We will break for food as needed by the group. The shelter has a old cast iron stove and wood if we need to warm up.
There are almost 85km of hiking trails at Cooking Lake/Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area, so let's check out some of the beautiful trails
Many people believe these to be the most scenic trails in this area.

If you are not taking part in the carpool, please be at the Wasgehagen parking lot. Lake trailhead ready go at 730am.
Bring snacks/lunch and plenty of water! There is nowhere to get more water on trail.

Hiking poles
Waterproof Gear may be useful at this time of year. Recommend Gators and very good waterproof boots as may be mucky depending on weather.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Travel east from Edmonton on 82nd Ave(Wye Road) approx 35 east of Sherwood Park, (aka Higway 630) Turn north Range Road 210. You will see a large Blue sign before the entrance.

Carpool Cost: The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $23.20 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Thursday, March 28, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.

All dogs must remain leashed at all times while within the Cooking Lake – Blackfoot, Wildlife, Grazing, Provincial Recreation Area
