Itinerary:

We will meet up at 8:4o am the carpool location and leave by 8:45am sharp. Drive is approx.45 minutes For those meeting at the event (bypassing the carpool), meet you at the Tawayik Lake trailhead for 9:30AM.

The Tawayik Lake Trail is on the north side of Highway #16. Enter left at the Elk Island Sign and follow the road until you see the Tawayik Lake sign.

We will Snowshoe the 16.5 km that has Aspen forest and meadows;great for viewing moose, elk and bison if we are lucky. Not so much in the winter We will break for lunch around 12:30pm.

The trail is moderate. Participants should be prepared and or expect any weather possibilities for this day. Dress in layers. NNO cotton as once damp will be cold.

To find me at the carpool location look for me wearing my Blue EOC baseball cap and driving a Navy Blue Kia SPortage. I usually have on pink/purple coats.

Water
snowshoes. Poles if desired. Lunch and snack
warm clothing
Approx $5 for carpool and $8.00 if you need a single day pass. for carpool per perso. Please bring exact change, as I do not carry extra cash for change. No pass is required for 2017 thanks to Parks Canada who is comping all visitors this year as it is Canada's 150th Birthday.

Event Directions:Elk Island National Park is located approximately 40 minutes from Edmonton, via Highway #16 East (Yellowhead).

Carpool Cost: The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $23.20 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Thursday, April 18, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.
