We will meet up at 9:30 AM at the carpool location and leave at 9:45 AM sharp - hopefully start hiking around 10:30 AM. For those meeting at the event (bypassing the carpool), meet you at the Moss Lake trailhead for 10:30 AM.

The Moss Lake trailhead is on the north side of Highway #16 and is just minutes before Astotin Lake. If you hit Astotin Lake, you've gone a bit too far so just back track a little.

We will hike the Moss Lake Trail (about 13 km, 3.5-4.5 hours) at Elk Island National Park. At around 12:30 PM, we will stop and have our lunch at a nice spot.

The trail is moderate and has sevaral rolling hills. We will be maintaining a moderate pace of ~4km/hr with snack/water breaks when needed.

Participants should be prepared and or expect any weather possibilites for this day.

Elk Island National Park is located approximately 40 minutes from Edmonton, via Highway #16 East (Yellowhead).

The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $23.20 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Friday, April 25, 2025). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.
