Itinerary:

Let's start the weekend with a not-too-long-and- gruelling evening walk!

We will meet at 6:00pm for a 6:10 departure.

The forecast for Friday is a "bit mixed", so please dress accordingly.
Also, it will be useful to bring a headlamp/flashlight for the latter stages of the walk.

Meet at the small parking lot at the NW end of Groat Bridge - see the directions below.
I will be wearing a yellow EOC cap, and standing by a grey Hyundai wagon.

Note that I would like to maintain a fairly brisk pace on this walk (approx 5km/h), although we will have a few short breaks along the way.

We will then walk west along the MacKinnon Ravine trail, as far west as it goes (just short of 149 Street).
At that point, we will turn around and start heading back east along MacKinnon Ravine.
After we pass under the 142 St bridge, there is a flight of stairs that takes us up into Glenora (St. George's Crescent).
We will climb those stairs and enjoy the great views over the River Valley.
We will then continue through Glenora and across 102 Ave, to access Ramsey Ravine.
This will then bring us back into the River Valley, and back to the parking lot.

Difficulty - this isn't too tough a walk, although MacKenzie Ravine in a westerly direction is a steady but moderate climb - remember we are walking at a brisk pace though!
Also, the stairs up to St George's Crescent are fairly steep and there are quite a lot of them! (sorry, don't know how many.....)

Dogs are very welcome on this hike, please remember to include them on the registration! :-)

Ice grips/traction devices for your footwear are strongly recommended
Also, please keep an eye on the weather forecast and your emails, in case we are faced with yet more bad weather!
In the event of severe windchill, heavy snow and/or poor driving conditions the event could be postponed - but let's hope it doesn't come to that!

Event Directions:

From Westmount - south on Groat Road, take the right lane for River Valley Rd, turn right into the parking lot before you go under the Groat Bridge.

From U of A - north on Groat Road, cross the bridge, exit right, right again, under the bridge then left into the parking lot.

From River Valley Rd - west under Groat Bridge then left into the parking lot.

Look for the coordinator wearing the yellow EOC ball cap.
