Fort Edmonton Stairs/Hiking conditioning (4/29/2009)

Itinerary:
The Hiking/backpacking season for most people is coming up on us. We need to slowly condition to do the longer hikes with weight on our backs.For this hike, you should be walking with weight in a pack to condition for the backpacking trips, if it's not your first or second conditioning event.The hike will be faster and few stops.
We will meet in the parking lot at Fort Edmonton Park at 6:00 p.m. for registration and leave at 6:15 p.m. for a short walk over to the set of stairs near Whitemud Creek. This will be a warm up before you climb up and down the stairs for 30 minutes.
After the stairs we will hike the trail on the South side of the North Sask. River to Hawrelak Park and back to Fort Edmonton parking lot. This side has hills,bugs, mud and could be slippery. Wear proper hiking foor wear.
Be sure to bring water to keep hydrated during the hike.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:To get to Fort Edmonton Park take Whitemud to Fox Drive.
Take a left turn on Fort Edmonton Park Rd NW and follow the road into the parking lot.
We will meet on the East side close to the River Loop trail head.
