Itinerary:
The leaves are off the trees, giving a clear view of the sky, and there is no snow on the ground yet. Perfect conditions for geocaching! We will try to find the "Doggie Playgrounds 2" cache in the Jackie Parker Recreation Area, while simultaneously giving our dogs a workout, as it is a huge dog park.

This geocache event involves going to a number of pre- determined sites in the park and figuring out which photo from the geocache information sheet belongs to that site and writing down its number. We have to find all 10 sites in order to do some calculations and determine where the geocache itself will be. Sounds like fun to me!

For those not familiar with geocaching, please visit Geocaching.com for more information. It is a worldwide hobby where people hide boxes of trinkets and post their GPS coordinates for others to find. It's treasure hunting by GPS! I have a GPS so you don't need one, but if you happen to have one then go to the web site, sign up, find the cache, and load up all of the coordinates you will need. Try the 'map it' option after typing in your home postal code to find the caches around you - then just zoom out and zoom into the Whitemud and 50th St. area and you'll find it - it will show up as a question mark at the south end of the park. Double click on the question mark to get to the geocache page.

The hike includes some grassy fields, dirt trails, some uneven rooty paths and some uphills and downhills. There might even be a little snow. There will also be some bushwacking involved, so don't bring your best coat and wear grippy hiking boots. This is an off leash park, so please bring bags to scoop up your dog's poop. You are expected to be responsible for your dog's behaviour, so please keep him/her in check when off leash and don't bring an aggressive or timid dog to a park populated by dogs. If your child is afraid of dogs, also a good idea not to bring him/her.

The park is easy to find, being just off the Whitemud, but please allow yourself enough time to find it and keep my phone number with you in case you get lost.

We will meet at 1 pm at the south parking lot and leave promptly at 1:15 pm after signing waivers etc. I will be wearing the yellow EOC coordinator cap. I don't know how long the hunt will take, so if it goes too quickly, we'll go for a walk through the trail system at the edge of the park afterward.
