Itinerary:
Let's get out for a nice skate at Victoria Park, which is a part of Edmonton's group of River Valley parks - depending on the weather, I plan to be out on the ice for 30-45 minutes. The main skating rink at Victoria Park (the Victoria Park Oval) is very large, and skating there is free! The Victoria Park Oval is one of the most scenic outdoor Olympic sized speed skating tracks in Canada. The Freezeway, a new 400 m skating trail, is also connected to the Skating Oval.

The Oval and Freezeway are both well protected from inclement weather by the location of Victoria Park in the River Valley and the surrounding trees. Victoria Park is home to the Edmonton Speed Skating Association (ESSA). The ESSA shares use of the rink with the City to allow public skating outside of club hours. The ESSA reserves the Victoria Park Oval at 6-7 PM, and there may still be a few speed skaters practicing on the track after public ice skating resumes at 7, but otherwise the ice should be clear to us to enjoy.

There is lots of parking, and washrooms are available at Victoria Park. A large, heated skate change area is located right next to the Oval.

We will meet inside the Skate Change Area at 7:00 PM sharp! If you are new to the EOC and have not met me in the past, please have a look at my photo on the list of EOC Volunteers so that you know what I look like. I will also have a yellow ballcap with me that will have the EOC logo on it.

Please note that skate rentals are not available at Victoria Park. If you do need to rent skate, you can rent them through the City of Edmonton, but you will have to visit the pavilion at Hawrelak Park before and after the event. Rentals through the city cost $7 per hour. Another suggestion is to visit Totem Outdoor Outfitters. They are located at 7430 99 Street, and their number is 780-432-1223.

In case of severe cold or snow this event may be cancelled, so please check your emails on the day of the event.
