Itinerary:
Nature Alberta is sponsoring an upcoming presentation by Dr. Christy Morrisey and Dr. Jessamyn Manson, who will be talking about birds, bees, and the threats of pesticides to their health. The presentation will be 2 hours in length (7 PM to 9 PM), and will be in Lecture Theatre 2-215 in the Van Vliet Complex (Physical Education and Recreation Building) at the University of Alberta. We will meet at 6:45 PM in the lobby outside the lecture theatre, so that the EOC group can find seats together.

Christy Morrisey, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the University of Saskatchewan Department of Biology. She has 16 years of experience working on issues related to environmental contamination and the use of birds as indicators of environmental damage. Her work has been broadly featured in the national and international media, and she is a regular contributor to the CBC's Quirks and Quarks. Additional information about her work can be found at http://homepage.usask.ca/~cam202/. Her presentation is titled: "Are We Facing Another Silent Spring? The new threats of current use of pesticides to birds and aquatic ecosystems in the Canadian prairies".

Jessamyn Manson, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta. Her research is focused on evolutionary ecology, chemical ecology and community dynamics of plant-insect interactions. She studies bumble bees as model pollinators that play an important role in the reproduction of native wildflowers, agricultural crops and invasive plants. You can learn more about her work at her lab webpage at http://www.biology.ualberta.ca/manson_lab.
