Itinerary:

We will leave Edmonton and drive straight to the trailhead located near Exshaw. Maybe a stop at Tim Horton's in either Red Deer or Cochrane for a snack and hot beverage.

Doorjamb Mountain and Loder Peak are two named mountains on a ridge system just west of Yamnuska in the dry front range mountains near the foothills. These two mountains lie in the Bow Valley corridor near the foothills and are constantly blasted each winter with east-ward chinook winds, and along with south facing slopes, are ideal for year-round ascents. This trip, however, is pending weather and snow conditions leading up to the event day. Should there be any recent snowfall in this area or other similar and or unsafe condition, this trip will be cancelled.

Stats:

Elevation: 2,088 meters
Elevation Gain: Around 900 meters
Distance: 8-9 kilometers
Note: The coordinator has not done this scramble before, please allow time and patience for unforeseen circumstances.

This is a winter scramble, not a hike. There should be some snow on the trail making things more difficult. If you have questions or are unsure if you can do this scramble please email the coordinator. Participants should have prior hiking and scrambling experience and be confident in winter like conditions.

Initially we will follow the ridge up to the summit of Doorjamb. Once at the summit of Doorjamb Mountain we'll follow the ridge to the col up to Loder Peak and descend down to a false fault at which point we'll start heading down to our cars via Jura Creek.

Expect heavy winds and of course, winter temperatures. Appropriate clothing is essential.
