Itinerary:
Please note: as this event is obviously weather-dependent, it may have to be cancelled on short notice. Please watch your e-mail, especially if the skies are cloudy on the date of this event.

Join me at the University of Alberta Observatory, which is located at the west end of the 5th floor of the CCIS Building. The observatory, which is run by the U of A Department of Physics, houses a 12" telescope. It is open to the public every Thursday evening, and we might have a chance to see the stars, nebulae, planets and the Moon

Beforehand, those interested can join me for refreshments at a nearby pub/restaurant (location to be determined on the night of the event).

I would strongly suggest that everyone wear warm clothing (ie. a warm jacket, mittens/gloves and a hat), as we will get chilled standing outside in the cold.

Required Items to Bring:
Warm clothing

An inquisitive mind!

How to Get There:
Event Directions:The CCIS Building is located on the University of Alberta Campus. A map of the campus (and directions inside CCIS) is available here; note that the building is labeled as "13" on the map.

Parking: Your best bet for parking is Lot V, which is a surface (outdoor) parking lot accessed from 116 Street and located directly to the north of the multi-level Windsor Car Park. Visitor parking in Lot V after 4:30 PM costs $2 for the evening, while visitor parking inside Windsor Car Park is slightly more expensive ($5 for the evening). To access Lot V, from Saskatchewan Drive travel south along 116 Street. Windsor Car Park is a multi-level parking garage located along the east side of 116 Street. Lot V is accessed from a side street that runs alongside the north end of Windsor Car Park.

Please note: while parking is free beside most parking meters in Edmonton after 6 PM (or on Sundays), this does not apply at the U of A, where the parking meters are in operation 24/7!.
Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):9Km
Carpool Departure Time: 8:00 PM
Carpool Location:   Log in for location
Carpool Directions:   Log in for directions
Carpool Cost: The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $2.61 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Saturday, April 27, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.
