Here is some info about the movie, "The Forgiveness of Blood" - USA/ Albania 2011, 109 min, 35mm, Dir: Joshua Marston

Rudina may be only fifteen but dreams of going to university and making something of her life. When her father is accused of murder after a neighbourly squabble over land ownership, the entire family is forced to accord to the dictates of the Kanun - a centuries old system of laws which prohibits any of her brothers from leaving their home. Forced with the responsibilities of her father’s affairs, Rudina flourishes while her older brother gives in to anger and frustration and determines to put an end to the feud.

Ancient blood feud, contemporary world. Joshua Marston’s intense and lyrical 2004 film Maria Full of Grace told the story of a Colombian teenager who goes to desperate lengths to better her place in life. The Forgiveness of Blood similarly follows youth maturing before its time, transporting us to a small town in northern Albania where time-worn resentments play out with the help of text messaging and video calls.
