Itinerary:
I discovered this hike from a fellow hiker who did Folding Mountain earlier this month. I would like to do the same only extend the trip further to include Fiddle Peak as well. I was told that there is no water sources along the trail and to pack enough water, 2L or 3L should do it.

We will hike an old coalmining trail to Folding Mountain, (2117m) then descend a few hundred metres to a low saddle connecting Fiddle Peak. Here we will hike through trees then up to the summit of Fiddle Peak, (2243m). Distance between the two mountains is roughly 5km. Return is expected to be the same way unless we discover an alternate route along Drystone Creek.

Please note, however, that I have not done this trip before. Please consider that there may be routefinding along the way. Should weather be unfavourable, then I may postpone the trip for another weekend.

Snow has come to the Rockies. I am not expecting snow to be an issue here as this trip takes us into the dry front ranges, but regardless, hiking poles, gaiters, and warm socks etc are a good thing to have. We may see some snow at the higher elevations. Overnight lows are now dipping below freezing and daytime highs show about 7 or 8 degrees.

Please note that this will be a long day out on the trail with a significant distance and cumulative elevation gains. I can only estimate from topo maps but distance will be near 25km and elevation gains around 1500m. I estimate a roundtrip time of some 11 - 13 hours.

The trailhead is located a few hundred metres from the Folding Mountain Resort so we'll drive out the night before and camp. Cost is $25 to camp. This fee will be paid out on the Friday evening. I will want to share tents if possible.

I will want to be on the trail no later than 7:30am. I would even suggest an earlier time if possible. Headlamps will be needed for this trip as we could be both starting and finishing in the dark.

I am obviously looking for experienced, fit, and strong hikers who enjoy hard work on the trail and all the rewards that come with such.

We will probably have supper in Hinton before returning back to Edmonton. Do expect a late return to the city.
