Itinerary:
This is a conditioning hike. The mountain hiking and backpacking season for most people is coming soon. This event is a faster pace urban hike with some stairs climbing mixed in, with few stops. People wanting to backpack this season should wear a daypack or backpack with weight in it.

Evenings are soon getting longer and backpacking season is getting closer. Come out and get a workout with a brisk river valley walk and optional stair drills.

The hikes will be gradually increasing in distance, number of repetitions on the stairs and hills and drills; in order to prep us for the summer hiking/backpacking season! We will maintain a quick pace with few stops to rest.

Click HERE for more info and tips on beginner backpacking and hiking.

We will meet at 5:45 pm near the picnic shelter west of the pedestrian bridge in Capilano Park for a 6:00pm departure. We'll head west with a climb up a paved trail, then descend into the valley on a dirt path, where we'll keep going up and down some hills as we approach Capilano Bridge. We'll stop at the stairs where we can do some repetitions on the stairs. We will cross Capilano Bridge, more stairs on the north side, then head toward Kinnard Ravine, depending on snow/mud/ice conditions, up and down the ravine, later on in the season the hill, then toward Dawson park. Then make our way back on the north side of the river to the Capilano foot bridge, where we'll cross back to our starting point.

We'll start off at a warm up pace then increase our speed and maintain a quick pace over the distance. Everyone is welcome, even if you are not planning to backpack, but remember these hikes will be gradually increasing in intensity.

When you feel like adding more weight, bring your backpack and increase the weight each time (but still manageable for the distance).

Mae and Joanne will be in the parking lot across from the picnic shelter. Look for the yellow EOC hats.
