Itinerary:

This is truly an URBAN hike! We will look at some of the interesting building stones that make up some of the landmark buildings in downtown Edmonton. There's granite, Italian marble, travertine, gneiss and more! I will start with a short overview of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks for the geology newbie and then we will meander along Jasper Ave. from 97 St. to 101 St. and back again. Afterward, we will go for dinner at Moriarty's Bistro and Wine Bar. You can get away with jeans at the bar but wearing them with a nice shirt instead of a t-shirt is a good idea. It's a city walk so you don't need your hiking boots!

This is a very transit friendly hike, so save the environment and take a bus if you can.

We will meet inside the entrance to the Shaw Convention Centre on Jasper Avenue. We will finish up at Moriarty's at 10154 100 Street, not too far away.
