Itinerary:

We are meeting at the Capilano Mall parking lot at 10:00 AM for a 10:15 AM departure to the Cooking Lake/Blackfoot Recreation Area.

The trailhead for this hike is the Islet Lake Staging area. We will walk along the shoreline trail before heading into a wooded path to the Lost Lake shelter where we'll stop for a snack/water break. We'll take a slightly different route back along some small lakes and marshes to the trailhead.

This event will depend on weather conditions. In the event of cold or windy weather, we will do a shorter trail but still start at the Islet Lake Staging Area. IF THERE IS PARTICULARLY SEVERE WEATHER THAT MORNING, THE EVENT WILL BE CANCELLED. CHECK EMAILS ON SATURDAY MORNING TO CONFIRM.

The total hiking distance will be about 10 km at a moderate pace.

Required Items to Bring:
Good footwear (boots suggested), including whatever extra foot gear might be needed (cleats?) to get up a few muddy hills.
Clothing appropriate for the weather; dress in layers and bring everything necessary to handle rain, sunshine, bugs, or even a late snowfall.
Bring lots of water and a snack.
If you're bringing your dog, make sure you bring their leash as it's an on-leash area, carry dog snacks, extra water, and baggies for cleaning up.

Take Wye Road east from the city to the Cooking Lake/Blackfoot Islet Lake and Central Staging area turnoff (At Range Road 200, just as Wye Road veers south). Continue straight all the way to the parking area.

The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $29.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Saturday, April 20, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.
