We had a very informative talk about the different hostels out there - urban vs. wilderness as well as other general hostel info.
URBAN
- open yr round
- rooms - dorm (2,4,6 - single sex/co-ed), double, & private rooms with some shared & private bathrooms
- self-serve kitchens - frige, cupboards, stove, oven, microwave, pots, pans, cups, utensils, dishes
- other amenities - laundry facilities, internet, bars, cafes, tv, games room, city tours, lockers, eating space, common rooms, washrooms, showers, linen & towels provided
WILDERNESS
- some seasonal
- rooms - dorm but are cheap
- kitchens - storage, stove, pots, pans, cups, utensils, dishes, no running water
- other info. - no running water, outhouses, some outdoor showers, snowshoe rentals, trails nearby for skiing & biking, guided hikes
WHAT TO BRING
- lock
- sleeping bag for some wilderness hostels (check 1st)
- sheets for some wilderness hostels (check 1st)
- linen for wilderness hostels
- food
RESERVATIONS
- phone, fax, e-mail, online (www.hihostels.ca) - 24 hr cancellation policy in Canada
CHECK-IN & OUT
- Urban - check-in - 24 hrs
- check-out - usually 11am or there will be a late fee
- need photo ID
- pay in advance when you arrive
RULES
- curfew
- 2 weeks max. # of nights
- lock out in daytime
- clean up after yourselves - especially put your dishes away after washing them
- quiet times

- Membership Costs - for 1-2 yrs: $35, for a lifetime: $175, juniors: free, group of 10+: free
