After some bad weather in June and high river advisories resulting in almost a month of cancelled practices we had an almost perfect weekend of weather for the festival and the races.
During July and August we all worked hard during our weekly practices and the extra practices that were booked through the EDBFA. Unfortunately there was some unanticipated injuries that knocked some from regular practice and competition, but the majority of our team came through unscathed and participated in the weekends races and celebrations.
As with all beginner sports teams there was a large learning curve involved. From watching the more experienced teams you can see how their form and technique has been perfected after years of practice. Like all competitive sports it takes all members of a team working together to achieve a winning performance.
We all took some much needed constructive advice and encouragement from our coaches over the course of the season and during the race weekend resulting in a silver medal performance in our final race on Sunday. Our final race time was 3:11 our best race time of the weekend and four seconds better than third place in a very tight race for all three boats.
At the end of the festival our group was very proud to go up on stage during the award ceremony and receive our very heavy and well designed silver medals. Congratulations to everyone!!
